There have been many instances of pro golfers sharing their funny moments with the sport’s icon, Tiger Woods. But not many have been greeted with luxurious hospitality, such as a seat in Woods’ own private jet. PGA Tour golfer, Camilo Villegas, however, would disagree. The 40-year-old had a lifetime experience in flying alongside Woods in his jet, albeit at a cost.

Camilo Villegas’ unforgettable experience with Tiger Woods

The Columbian golfer, who was once touted as a rising star in the early 2000s, detailed his experience at the GOLF’s Subpar podcast. In the early part of his career, Villegas was signed with IMG and was joined by Woods in 1996. The pair were invited to a skins game in Thailand in 2008, but Villegas had no room in his schedule.

Participation in the event in the far-east proved troublesome for Villegas, but his management company sorted out his travels. The Columbian was offered a lift aboard Tiger Woods’ luxurious private jet, which was impossible to turn down.

Villegas set foot on the jet alongside the owner and his caddie, Steve Williams, and former IMG agent, Mark Steinberg. However, little did the golfer know of the troubles that were yet to transpire.

Villegas’ wine spill billed at $25,000

In his own words, the Columbian was tired after boarding the jet. “We get on the plane and I’m tired man. All I want to do is sleep. And this lady comes out and says, ‘Hey guys, what do you want to drink?’ And I’m like, ‘Well, I’ll take a water,’ and Tiger looks at me and gives me this look like, ‘Dude, you just won the skins game, come on. Don’t be a wuss. Have a little freaking wine or whatever with me,’” Villegas said.

He eventually agreed to a glass of red wine, but completely forgot about its presence during take-off. It took him some time to realize the wine’s existence, which was no longer contained in a glass. “I look to my right and there is red wine flying everywhere. Tiger is to my left, he looks and goes, ‘Nice.’ I start sweating dude. I’m sweating here,” Villegas revealed.

After around forty minutes of sustained effort, Villegas decided to give up. “Finally I turn around and look at Tiger. I say, ‘Bro, just send this thing to get cleaned and send me the bill,'” he said. However, fast forward to a few months and Villegas received an enormous bill worth $25,000!

However, the Columbian golfer stayed put to his word but had issues completing the transaction for a weird reason. “I called this lady at your bank, and I said, ‘Listen, I need to transfer $25,000 to this bank account.’ And the lady goes, ‘Sorry, Camilo, that bank account is full. You can’t fit a penny in there,’” Villegas said.

What a whirlwind story with the modern-day golf legend! Villegas’ experience was an unforgettable one, and considering the bill, an unmatched one.
