The most dreaded part of being an athlete is the toll your body takes. Athletes are certainly more prone to injuries than others. While people think non-contact sports like golf have no chance of injury, they couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, John Daly is living proof of the toll the game takes on you. The golf great recently underwent another major surgery that he certainly hopes will help prolong his golf career.

Daly, in his prime, was an unstoppable force. His first win on the Tour was a Major Championship that came in 1991. The 56-year-old now plays on the PGA Tour Champions and has won one event on the senior circuit.

John Daly beams with hope after his surgery

Last week, John played in the family event, the PNC Championship. The professional golfer had announced that he was to undergo knee replacement surgery for his left knee soon after the event ended. As per GOLF.com Daly stated, “I’m getting my knee replacement done Wednesday, full knee replacement. So I’ll be out for a while.”

Daly had deferred his surgery just to play in the event alongside his son, John Daly II. The two tied for second place, losing by two strokes to Team Singh. On Wednesday, Daly headed to Arkansas Surgical Hospital for his knee replacement, and after a successful surgery, he took to Instagram to let his loyal fans know how it went.

Daly wrote, “I’m up and running—well sort of! Just some resting and recovering! Now to follow up on my PT.” The humble golfer also publicly thanked his doctor and the “wonderful staff” that helped him and gave them a “shout out” in his post. With a little rest and proper physiotherapy, Daly should be back even stronger.

Was Daly in pain while playing at the PNC?

Deferring his surgery to spend some quality time on the course with his son came with its consequences. At the event, Daly spoke to Golf Channel’s Steve Sands and said, referring to his son, “I’m a little banged up, but I’ll be in the saddle. He’ll be the horse.”

Long John also sympathized with Tiger Woods because he knew what he was going through. He said, “I can’t imagine how much pain [Woods is] in, but I know mine.” The PGA Tour veteran added, “It’s no fun when you can’t walk and can’t turn and be able to get out and practice enough.” But the surgery changes that for Daly.
