For the longest time in golf, the male athletes received far more recognition than the females. However, over the last few years, things have been gradually changing. Be it through bigger sponsors or more coverage by the media, slowly but surely progress has been made. And the latest step in that comes with Rose Zhang and Michelle Wie West grabbing the spotlight for their recent partnership!

The pair’s latest collaboration is undoubtedly a huge and important step in the upliftment of women golfers. It seems like now finally they are getting their due recognition, especially with the golf pairs’ latest partner being a $23 billion airline giant.

Currently, Michelle West and Zhang are busy in the Mizuho Americas Open, a new tournament by LGPA; West, as the host, and Zhang, as a debutant, have made yet another major conquest. Amid the excitement, the leading ladies of golf have struck a major sponsorship deal with Delta Airlines. The $23 billion company is one of the biggest airlines in the USA and among the oldest airlines in the world.

With a revived policy of focusing exclusively on female athletes, this partnership is their step toward broader commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Not so surprisingly, Delta is also the official airline partner of the Mizuho Open, their first association with the LPGA.

Speaking on the partnership with Delta, West has said encouraging words: “Partnering with them is an exciting next step as I approach a new phase in my career and life. I look forward to joining Delta in the skies and on the course as we take women’s golf to new heights.” Wie also revealed that she had been a frequent Delta flyer during her career.

Zhang has also spoken up about this brand-new collaboration. “Starting my professional journey with Delta is invaluable as we work together to elevate women’s golf and continue the climb in my career.”

It seems both the golf women are ready to take the lead in their new roles with this new sponsorship under their belt. Zhang as a newly turned pro, and West as an ex-pro golfer working to build the sport!

The 33-year-old LPGA star embraced retirement a few months ago. However, that decision is not acting as a roadblock in the development of her career. West is still active in golf in other ways. She is hosting a golf podcast, has big partnership deals, and is also hosting the inaugural Mizuho Americas Open. And with this new airline’s sponsorship, West continues to maintain her position as a top-level athlete. She also hopes that with this new venture, she will be able to take female golf to new heights.

On the other hand, this is a big achievement for the 2023 Augusta National Women’s Amateur, Rose Zhang, as well. The 20-year-old golf prodigy is a Stanford University star who has all eyes on her as she now turns pro. Thanks to her breaking the record of 15-time major championship winner Tiger Woods and appearances at the 2019 Pan American Games, where her team took home a gold medal, she is everywhere at once.
