In an Unfortunate Turn of Events, Golf Cart Driver Suffers Fatal Accident in South Carolina

Golf carts do not seem dangerous but they can lead to some drastic accidents. They do not possess several safety features commonly found in automobiles, including seat belts, doors, mirrors, and lights. Furthermore, due to their higher center of gravity, they may pose additional safety risks. One such unfortunate incident involving a golf cart in South Carolina has come to light.
Yet another golf cart accident in South Carolina
As per the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a crash near Inman has resulted in the death of a golf cart driver. The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 5 P.M, about three miles west of Inman, South Carolina.

According to WYFF4, the golf cart driver was traveling west on Holly Springs Road while a Nissan sedan was headed east on the same road. The golf cart attempted to make a left turn onto Collinsdale Drive when it was hit by the Nissan.
The golf cart driver was transported to Spartanburg Regional by EMS, but unfortunately, they passed away on Thursday. The driver of the Nissan, who was the sole occupant of the car, did not suffer any injuries from the crash.
No charges were filed in connection with the incident against the Nissan driver.
Can golf carts be driven on the road in South Carolina?

Although golf carts are not designed to be driven on the road. Given the lack of safety features, they should not be driven on the road. Taking such carts on the road can be harmful to the driver and everyone else on the road. Although, South Carolina allows golf carts on road under some restrictions, as mentioned by Steinberg Law Firm:
- The cart is being driven within a 4 miles radius of the home.
- The person driving is either 16 years or above.
- The road has a speed limit of 35mph or less.
- The cart is driven during the day.
- The driver has a valid license.
Similar to cars, golf carts should be registered with the DMV and insured for liability.
