The BMW Ladies Championship is currently underway at the Seowon Hills at Seowon Valley Country Club located in South Korea. Leading the event despite her injuries with a score of 10 under par is Ashleigh Buhai. She is leading in the race to a $2.2 million prize purse.

Chasing her is American golfer Alison Lee who made four birdies in the last four holes. In a post-round press conference, Buhai admitted she did not have a score of 62 in her plans or in sight when she woke up on the morning of her round. She carded a bogey-free round of 10-under and had a lot today after.

The South African player explained that this unexpected low score was particularly surprising due to her recent forced break of five weeks caused by an old back injury that had flared up. This injury had compelled her to take time off from the game.

Despite her limited practice and preparation leading up to the tournament, Buhai mentioned that the break from competitive golf might have been a “blessing in disguise” following a busy summer season since it gave her time to relax and rejuvenate.

Buhai also mentioned that she had worked with her coach in Florida the week before the tournament on three specific aspects of her game. She aimed to adhere to these three key elements during her round and this contributed to her unexpectedly strong performance and her impressive score of 62 which is also her career’s lowest score.

“Boring golf” pays off with a 10-under performance

When asked about how she felt, she said she felt her game was clicking well from the beginning. She attributed the birdie-rich round to favorable course conditions due to overnight rain and the course being soft, allowing for aggressive play.

She emphasized the importance of playing “boring golf,” saying, “Boring golf is good golf, you know” indicating that a steady and consistent approach to the game often leads to success.

Buhai mentioned that her strong performance was somewhat unexpected, especially considering her limited play and practice since her last tournament in Cincinnati. Overall she expressed satisfaction with her remarkable 10-under performance despite not initially anticipating such a score.
