Bryson DeChambeau is a golfer who has had a love-hate relationship with the fans since the start of his professional career. His unorthodox way of looking at things, not just golf, is one of the primary reasons for the same. Regardless of the external pressure, Bryson has won eight PGA Tours and a major championship in his career so far.

We witness a stone-faced DeChambeau on the course, focused on his game. However, we seldom know anything about his life off the field. Yes, he has a YouTube Channel, but DeChambeau doesn’t talk about his personal life or beliefs. Moreover, we have seen DeChambeau as a rational and scientific guy, but is he religious? If yes, does he follow Christianity or any other religion?

Bryson DeChambeau and his religious beliefs

DeChambeau is a Christian, and he follows it religiously. However, following Christianity also gave him a lot of frustration at times. DeChambeau did not excel in the first two seasons at Southern Methodist University, and this is where the frustration started creeping in.

“There were times that Bryson would call home after a tournament he didn’t do well in and wonder, ‘Why is God doing this to me? I practice harder than everyone else,'” revealed his mother, Jan. Furthermore. She said that DeChambeau was all set to quit the game as a sophomore in 2014.

However, his mentor Schy visited him and gave him a book, The Handbook of Athletic Perfection, by Wes Neal. The book made Bryson realize he had made his golf score the center of his life, which created problems.

“People think Christianity is this kind of medication that makes things easier when, in fact it’s the toughest route you could ever go down. Because it holds you to a high, high standard – which is going best at every moment,” believes the 2020 U.S. Open Champion.

Why is DeChambeau known as The Scientist?

Bryson DeChambeau had completed his major in physics from Southern Methodist University. Moreover, the branch of study reflects in his game. The 28-year-old golfer has built his game on a scientific approach. He has read plenty of science-based golf books, which influenced him to create a set of irons of the same length.

Furthermore, during the pandemic break, DeChambeau bulked up and gained some muscles to improve his power game. This helped him gain an advantage over the field, especially in the 2020 U.S. Open. He comfortably won the major event by overwhelming the course.

He soon realized gaining strength is not the only way ahead. Therefore, DeChambeau worked on increasing his ball and swing speed. The 8-time PGA Tour winner has a unique putting grip and technique. He keeps his arms straight and uses more of his shoulders with a long and thick grip on the putter.
