The 105th PGA Championship is all set to commence from May 18–21, 2023, at the East Course at Rochester, New York’s Oak Hill Country Club. With the event coming up, there are questions about the players who are going to participate. Most questions revolve around the LIV golfers and one among them is Dustin Johnson.

Johnson has performed well on the tour since he joined LIV Golf in 2022. Johnson has cemented his position as one of the best players in the new league by winning one individual championship and one team championship during his tenure there. However, with LIV Golf’s issues with matching the eligibility criteria, will the 38-year-old still be qualified to participate in the upcoming event remains a big question.

The PGA Championship recently opted to permit LIV players who satisfy the tournament’s qualifying rules to hit the links at Oak Hill. But the scandal surrounding the LIV’s Official World Golf Ranking is the biggest barrier to entry into the majors. But LIV Golf is still going strong and had a presence at the 2023 Masters. Additionally, the players will be present at the Open, US Open, and PGA Championship.

Many LIV players will participate in the upcoming PGA Championship as well as other competitions because of the multiple qualification pathways; the 38-year-old is one of them. Johnson is eligible for all major tournaments until 2025 and is granted lifetime access to Augusta following his victory at the 2020 Masters. Additionally, because he won the US major in 2016, the Green Jacket winner is eligible to compete in his home country’s major until 2026.

DJ has already established himself as a formidable player in the new league. The two-time major champion won the Invitational Boston competition in his debut season with the league, supported by Saudi Arabia. The American’s second year has not been particularly simple. At the 2023 Masters, he came in tied for 48th. However, the 38-year-old went on to win the team championship at the inaugural LIV Golf Adelaide later that month.

Dustin Johnson’s record at PGA Championship

Throughout his career, DJ has had a mixed record at the PGA Championship. Johnson’s greatest performance at the Championship was in 2010 at Whistling Straits, where he tied for fifth place. He also tied for eighth place in Oak Hill Country Club’s 2013 PGA Championship. The LIV Golfer has, however, also had some dismal PGA Championship results. He was in the running for the lead going into the final round at Whistling Straits in 2015. However, a contentious penalty on the 18th hole prevented him from making a playoff and forced him to tie for fifth place instead.

The 2018 Masters champion entered the championship as one of the favorites, but he struggled in the final round and tied for 27th place. Johnson has occasionally excelled in the PGA Championship, but he has yet to claim the title. But because of his extraordinary talent and ongoing success, he consistently has a shot at winning a major tournament.
