Emiliano Grillo’s childhood love story and heartbreak
Grillo’s most significant early relationship was with Macarena Alcala, his childhood sweetheart from Argentina. The two grew up together in Resistencia, having known each other before fame took over Grillo’s life. Their relationship developed when he was an amateur, and he often saw Alcala standing by him as he made his way into professional golf.
Over the years, their love blossomed, and they decided to enter the next stage of their life. The couple married in 2016, less than a year after Grillo’s PGA Tour breakthrough at the Frys.com Open. Their wedding was a private affair, but after that, Alcala was often seen behind the ropes, cheering for her husband at his tournaments. This included the Masters, probably the biggest stage of golf. One incident that stands out from their marriage is from the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship. After a busy day during the tournament, Grillo, who had not been able to wish Alcala on her birthday, decided to make up for it with the sweetest gesture one could. He commissioned an airplane that went over Quail Hollow with a banner saying “Feliz Cumple Maqui!” It was a beautiful gift from Grillo for his wife, whom he so lovingly called “Maqui.”

But unfortunately, this story had to end. After just three years of marital bliss, cracks started appearing in their relationship, and the couple separated. Grillo filed for divorce in May 2019, for reasons not known to the public. The proceedings lasted over two years before being finalized in September 2021. Several reports said that financial matters, such as shared expenses and settlement arrangements, contributed to the drawn-out process.
Despite the difficulties, Grillo and Alcala chose to keep details out of the public sphere out a respect for each other and their shared history. They didn’t have any children together, which might have made the legal process more straightforward in some respects. Once the divorce was finalized, both bid adieu and moved ahead separately in their life. Since then, Macarena Alcala has remained out of the public eye.

Emiliano Grillo’s second chance at love and life
After a brutal heartbreak, one might lose all hope in finding love again in their life. But for Emiliano Grillo, the universe had another chance stored for him. His life entered a new stage when he met with Alexia Garcia Morris, who is also from Argentina. As per several reports, the two knew each other from their youth, which probably made the relationship rather easier to start. Born the same year as Grillo, Alexia had studied architecture at the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste (UNNE) in Resistencia. While she is trained as an architect, her profile is mostly low-key, with only minimal appearances during Grilo’s matches.
The world found out about Grilo’s affair after the couple made their relationship public in October. Alexia shared a photo on her Instagram putting all speculations to rest. After that, there was no going back. The couple never shied away from admitting their love for each other, whether through social media or during Grilo’s on-course contentions. Life gave them a blessing through Andre, their son, who they welcomed in March 2022. Andre soon became a familiar face at Grilo’s tournaments, particularly at the 2024 Masters Tournament’s Par Three Contest, where he joined his parents on the course.

The mother-son duo have since been frequently seen supporting Grillo, including his 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge victory, where the three of them celebrated together. They now live in San Diego, California, which serves as Grillo’s base during the PGA Tour season. Grilo, staying true to his nature, is still quite reserved about his love life, but Alexia occasionally shares glimpses of them on social media. And in November of 2024, the couple finally tied the knot after years of dating. The wedding was attended by close family and friends and was a beautiful event. Grillo wore a handsome black tuxedo, and Alexia complemented him with a gorgeous white gown. Andre was there too to cheer on his parents’ big day. For Grillo, Alexia has brought a renewed stability in his professional game, which was highlighted by his return to the winner’s circle on the PGA Tour.
Emiliano Grillo’s personal journey, from childhood romance and marriage to divorce and then building a family with a new partner, shows the very human side of an athlete often seen through the lens of competition. Grillo’s ability to handle these transitions with discretion and dignity has allowed him to focus on both his family and his golf, proving that his story is about more than just fairways and greens.
