Lydia Ko has an incredible run in the 2024 season. Just a year ago, Ko was unable to win a single event on the LPGA Tour, but in 2024, she seized three events, including the AIG Women’s Open in St. Andrews. She became a three-time Olympic medalist after winning the gold in Paris and was also inducted into the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame. Throughout her journey, as she achieved milestones during the season, Ko had her husband by her side.

Gearing up for the 2024 LPGA Tour season for the last time, will Chung Jun be there for her? Ko was asked this at the press conference after she finished T5 post her opening round. Answering the reporters, the New Zealand resident said, “He actually flew on a red eye and got here this morning.” But it was not easy for Chung Jun to travel all the way from South Korea to Naples, Florida.

Ko revealed that unfortunately or fortunately for them, Jun works a day job so he was busy with meetings until 9:00 p.m. per West Coast time. During that period, there was also a weather alert because of high winds. So, the 22-time LPGA Tour winner told him, “If it’s dangerous just don’t come.” However, Jun was adamant that he would come no matter what.

That’s why Chung Jun will be at the CME Group Tour Championship, supporting his wife to win the season finale for the second time in her career and end the 2024 season with a victory as she started it with one. Speaking of Ko’s victories and her husband, for the longest time, Jun blamed himself for her ordinary season.

Lydia Ko’s husband blamed himself for her winless season

Lydia Ko married her husband in December 2022, right after she won the 2022 CME Group Tour Championship, Rolex Player of the Year, and the Vare Trophy. However, after that winning period, Ko could not win any official tournaments on the LPGA Tour in 2023. It was a disappointing year for the South Korean native as she was just losing her form.

And as Jun watched her lose on the side, he blamed himself for it. Ko said, “But, yeah, this will always be a special place for us, and I know there has been multiple times where he kind of said where he felt like it was his fault if I didn’t play well.” However, Ko reminded him of the time when she won the 2022 season finale and he was there as her fiance. “I think that kind of made it a little bit more relieving for him,” said the 27-year-old.

Since then, the two have adopted a dog and will soon celebrate their 2nd anniversary. Jun will be there at the 2024 Grant Thornton Invitational as well, while Ko defends the title with Tony Finau. Hopefully, the 3-time major winner will both events and go home with two trophies.
