Bryson DeChambeau finally came out of his curse spree of the Masters. On the first day, the Scientist took a bag full of birdies home, eight to be precise, and ended the round with a score of -7 under 65 and secured the lead on the leaderboard. However, his happiness was short-lived as Max Homa and Scottie Scheffler soon caught up with the 30-year-old after round two.

Round 3 was what came as the major disappointment, where he not only carded 5 bogeys but also had a double bogey at the Firethorn, dropping his score to 3-over 75. He ended the championship tying for the 6th position as he carded a 1-over 73 in the final round. Now it appears he might have only one final shot at the Masters title, with just another year of exemption left!

During the Press Conference held after the Masters, Bryson DeChambeau was interviewed and asked how he felt after starting with such flying colors and then dropping down. The interviewer asked if he questioned his belonging to the golfing greens. To which DeChambeau stated that he did, after the tournament that he had at the Augusta National. He said, “I played well here as an amateur, and I had that kind of looming over my head a little bit.”

But well, it must not be forgotten that he did enjoy his lowest finish in the first round this year, and that surely counts as an achievement. This is what helps him to still dream on and hope for the best. With his exemption expiry due next year, Bryson DeChambeau added, “I’m looking forward to next year. I am. There’s a few more things I need to dial in with my equipment, but I am super close.”

He was further asked about how he felt about 2025 being his final year with an exemption. To that end, DeChambeau stated that it felt crazy. Yet, he has no idea what the future has in store for him. However, if he does get invited after that year, he would gladly get back to play the Augusta National even after 2025. But how is that going to happen?

What is the Scientist’s next ideal target for Masters: An extension

Being a LIV golfer, the 30-year-old is not eligible for the OWGR points and Bryson DeChambeau is currently sitting as low as the 210th position on the OWGR list. Without an exemption, the nine-time PGA Tour winner has a few options. The first one where he needs to climb up the ladder of the OWGR list, to the top 50, which is going to take a lot more improvement for the upcoming season!

Apart from that, Bryson DeChambeau can focus on winning at least one of the remaining three majors this year as Masters awards a 5-year exception to major winners. The next option is to work hard enough to win the Masters 2025 and earn a lifelong exemption or at least be amongst the 12 players of that year. Either way, these are the things that will secure him an exemption beyond 2025. Well, if DeChambeau manages to impress with his game strength enough, there are still possibilities that he earns an invite.
