Beneath the surface of his rising fame lies a fascinating story – one rooted in diversity and family passion. Min Woo Lee was born on July 27, 1998, in Perth, Western Australia. His father, Soo Nam Lee and Clara Lee, immigrated from the Republic of Korea and settled in Australia in the 1990s. However, it was this Korean-Australian connection that would shape Lee’s life and golfing journey. The 26-year-old grew up in a household where golf was a shared passion.

He and his sister, Min Jee Lee, were encouraged to tee off from a young age. All thanks to their father, who was an avid golfer himself back in South Korea. Additionally, Lee’s mother worked as a golf coach, when the Lee family transitioned to Australia. Min Woo Lee’s Korean roots have instilled in him a strong work ethic and dedication, values deeply ingrained in Korean culture.

His Australian upbringing, meanwhile, has provided a laid-back and adaptable demeanor, perfectly balancing his intense passion for golf. This harmonious blend of cultures has fueled Lee’s ascent in the golf world. Notably, Minjee Lee has already made a name for herself in the golf world. The Australian turned pro in 2014 and became a consistent force on the LPGA Tour.

Propelling success: Min Woo and Minjee Lee’s sibling’s synergy 

Growing up, Min Woo Lee acknowledged a natural rivalry with his sister: “We were both competitors.” Their competitive dynamic led to a brief distance in their teenage years. However, maturity brought them closer, transforming their rivalry into a healthy motivation. The sibling rivalry and support have undoubtedly played a significant role in Min Woo’s success.

Additionally, it was his sister’s impressive junior and professional wins that fueled Min Woo’s determination. “Maybe he had a one-sided rivalry against me,” she joked. Yet, this rivalry benefited both siblings. Minjee described their dynamic: “It’s a bit of motivation for him, and for me too.”

Their back-and-forth successes showcased this synergy. Min Woo’s 2021 Aberdeen Scottish Open win was quickly matched by Minjee’s triumph at the Amundi Evian Championship, her first major title.
