In the golf world, there are some championships that reign supreme. For the year 2023, two major tournaments have already happened. The Masters was dominated by Jon Rahm who took home a prize of $3,240,000. The month of May witnessed the historic winning of Brooks Koepka at the PGA Championship, being the first LIV Defector to claim a major victory and a prize sum of $3.15 million. And now with the arrival of June fans can’t wait to watch one of the most anticipated events – The US Open. 

This year will mark the 123rd anniversary of the US Open. The event is held in partnership with Deloitte and will be hosted at The Los Angeles Country Club, California from 15th June to 18th June. Many players have been named to be participating in the event. But with LIV Golfers granted permission to participate, a big question stands – Will Phil Mickelson play at the US Open?

The 52-year-old LIV Defector has earned a notorious reputation for joining hands with the Saudi-backed league despite expressing his disapproval against them in the earlier days.

Entries for the US Open were closed in April and Mickelson who has won the 2021 PGA Championship was allowed to enter on this basis only. It will be interesting to watch the performance of Lefty who has been an outspoken supporter and advocate of his new Saudi-backed league.

Mickelson’s recent Twitter rampage and other LIV pros at the US Open

The LIV loyalist was caught in a Twitter storm last week when he struck at Rory McIlroy when the latter made a bold statement about PGA Tour policies. He also gave some interesting advice to Eamon Lynch after Lynch called him a “shameless pawn for murderers” on Twitter.

As far as other LIV golfers go, those who will be joining Mickelson at the Open are Brooks Koepka, Cameron Smith, Bryson DeChambeau, and Dustin Johnson.

This year the event has a prize purse of $10 million. What’s more interesting is that if Phil wins, then this will be the second PGA Tour event that will go in the bag of LIV golfers.
