The Hero World Challenge is a little closer than you might think; Tiger Woods-hosted event is ready to entertain. While Woods himself is not going to play, many other players will be present at the event. Phil Mickelson, who is currently playing more PGA TOUR Champions events, has been a part of the events’ previous editions.

That being said, let’s find out if Mickelson will be playing at the Albany Golf Club in Albany, Bahamas.

Will Phil Mickelson be playing at the Hero World Challenge this year?

As per current reports, Mickelson will not be playing the Hero World Challenge this year. His schedule has been packed for the whole season, his last event being the Champions Tour’s Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS. As 2021 is about to end, Mickelson seems to have wrapped up for the year, and will probably make his return to the course next year. However, Mickelson would have received an invitation following his major win.

Mickelson’s last PGA Tour event was the Fortinet Championship, where he finished T36. As mentioned, he last played the Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS, which he won. The six-time major winner has won three out of his four Champions Tour events, making his presence known right from the start.

Does Mickelson prefer the Champions Tour?

Mickelson has previously spoken about the regular and Champions Tour, about how he prefers the latter these days. It might end up affecting his PGA Tour schedule, save for a few highlight events.

“I’m having fun playing in these,” Mickelson earlier said about the senior tour. “I don’t feel like there are tournaments on the regular tour that are really exciting me to get out and play, so it’s fun for me to get out here and work on a few things that I’m trying to improve on and play with guys that I know”.

He even spoke about a rain delay once, where he knew everyone in the locker room while playing on the Champions Tour. On the PGA Tour, Mickelson is less aware of the younger players and feels like he only knows a third of those people.
