The second major tournament of the season is fast approaching in just a week. The PGA Championship will begin on 18th May at the East Course of Oak Hill Country Club. After the stunning first major tournament of the season, it will be thrilling to see how the second major unfolds. It always holds the fans on the edge of their seats to see who will play and who will not. This brings us to the question, will Thomas Pieters, the Belgian golfer, play in the forthcoming tournament?

Will Thomas Pieters play in the 2023 PGA Championship? 

No other tournament extends as many special invitations as the PGA of America for its major tournaments. Special invitations are one of the exemptions that the PGA of America can utilize to invite additional players that do not fall under any exemption category. Players such as Talor Gooch and Anirban Lahiri have already been invited via special invitation.

The 2023 PGA Championship field was recently announced today. There were 43 new names that were updated in the list since the conclusion of the Wells Fargo Championship, and Thomas Pieters was one name that was updated on the list.

The 29-year-old has also received a special invite from the PGA of America to take part in the upcoming major tournament in New York. This means that the fans will get to see the Belgian golfer trying his luck to secure his first career major win at the Oak Hills Country Club. 

Thomas’ track record at the PGA Championship

Ranked 52nd in the world, Pieters will appear in the major for the sixth time. According to the PGA Championship website, in his five previous appearances at the PGA Championship, the golfer had his best finish in 2018 when he finished in at the 6th position.

In 2019, the golfer finished in 23rd position, and in 2021, but he missed the cut. The streak of not being in the top 10 continued in 2022 as well the Belgian golfer finished in the 71st position. 

It will be interesting to see how the golfer would perform in the 2023 PGA Championship. Will he make the cut? Or miss the cut? Will he outshine his previous performances this year?
