The ISPS HANDA Australian Open is the second event of the DP World Tour’s Australian Swing, co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia. The Open is a mixed event and sees both men and women compete simultaneously, teeing up alternatively on different leaderboards.

Two courses in Sydney, the Australian GC and the Lakes GC, will play host to the event. The initial two days will be played at Lakes GC, while the final two rounds will be on the Australian GC greens. The men’s open is returning to the Emerald City for the first time since 2016, while the women’s open is here after 16 years.

Prominent golfers at the ISPS HANDA Open

The ISPS HANDA Australian Open started on November 30 and will conclude on December 3 at the Australian GC. 156 men and 84 women will tee it up on day one, and like regular events, only one cut will be made after round two. Surprisingly, this call discards the unpopular second cut after the third round that was featured last year and led to the drawcard Cameron Smith casualty, wherein he failed to make the cut on Saturday.

This year, only the top 60 and ties from the men’s side will proceed onto Saturday, while in the women’s open, the top 32 professionals plus ties will make the cut. The men’s Open winner will be awarded the Stonehaven Cup, and the women’s winner will receive the Patricia Bridge Bowl.

Some of the notable players eyeing victory are last week’s Australian Championship winner Min Woo Lee, who is looking for his 3rd DP World Tour win; former champions Adam Scott and Cam Davis; and defending champion Adrian Meronk. Cameron Smith, who missed the cut at the Australian PGA Championship, and famed PGA pro Michael Block will also be on the field.

From the women’s side, defending champion Ashleigh Buhai, Aussie golfer Minjee Lee, South Korea’s veteran Jenny Shin, former world no. 1 Jiyai Shin, Australian fan favorite Hannah Green, and the rookie from China Lucy Li will be teeing it for the multi-million-dollar purse and the prestigious trophy.

The million-dollar prize purse at stake

The total prize purse for the ISPS HANDA Australian Open is set at AUD $3.4 million. This will see a further split in half for the men’s and women’s sides. The payout for both remains the same, with the purse for each becoming AUD $1.7 million (approximately USD $1.1 million). As per Golf Monthly, the winner’s cut thereafter stands at AUD $270,000 (approximately $178,000).
