After toiling for three days, the USA wasn’t able to break its 30-year-old curse. Europe reigns in the 2023 Ryder Cup with a 16-11 victory over the USA. But their victory was predictable from day one when they smashed the US in foursomes matches.

Zach Johnson takes full responsibility for Ryder Cup loss

The three days were riding on high emotion, and the burden of the players was on the captains. But despite losing, US captain Zach Johnson congratulated the other team and their captain, Luke Donald. The European victory was well deserved based on the level of play they displayed on the course.

Johnson also said that he wouldn’t change anything because it was unique to enter enemy territory and challenge them. “But there’s something special about coming over here and having to fight because it’s hard, and I like the fight. So, I wouldn’t change anything.”

Johnson didn’t think twice about accepting blame for the failure. He claimed that the team gave the game their all and played exceptionally well. However, perhaps the squad paid a price for his planning and strategy. ”It is not them; it is me. Maybe there are some important decisions I can reflect on,” said Johnson. “I wish I’d done a better job.” Apparently, Justin Thomas nodded when Johnson took the blame on himself.

The loss must be pretty hard on Johnson and others, as is for Rickie Fowler, who couldn’t help but take a jab at the crowd.

Disheartened Rickie Fowler has a go at the crowd

Well, without its fans, a game lacks all of its beauty. Since Rome hosted the biennial competition, more European spectators cheered on for their countrymen. Additionally, spectators frequently made games difficult for the US team. Fans didn’t leave any part of the game untouched with their taunts, chants, etc.

In an interview, Fowler said that the next 2025 Ryder Cup would be different from this one. It is tradition that both Europe and the United States host the Cup alternatively, so next time, the tournament will be played on America’s soil, and for Fowler, “there’s nothing like a New York crowd or a Northeast crowd.”
