Before clinching the $4 million event, the mother-son duo of Matthew Fitzpatrick and Susan Fitzpatrick won the Pro-Am at the Alfred Dunhill Links. While it was a sweet victory for the Ryder Cup hero, the Englishman chose to place it ahead of his other DP Tour wins.

In a relatively young career, the 29-year-old has managed nine wins on his home tour. When asked about the significance of this particular win alongside his mother, he responded that it held greater value for him. “…It is true. Even with all my wins, aside from a major, you forget about them in the future, and you’ll always remember the one that you won with your mum, so doesn’t get better than that,” he said.

Furthering on that, the English pro added, “To be fair, both my parents, if I’ve won nine times, I would say they have only missed two or three of those, so probably bodes well.” He concluded by saying, “Yeah, we’ve had a great day.”

Matthew has had a lucky streak this season. Coming back from Rome a weekend ago and now proving his mantle at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, he surely has luck working in his favor this time around.
