Golf requires the utmost discipline, and not only regarding one’s behavior but also in the apparel one wears. This same eliteness in the sport can sometimes set up a barrier to the sport’s growth. Moreover, Paige Spiranac recently spoke about the same and spoke some spicy words about the elite mentality in golf.

Spiranac voiced her opinion against the elitist mentality in golf in the new episode of her podcast, Playing a Round With Paige Renee. In the episode, she talked about how she felt miserable when she was told about her dressing style on a golf course. At the same time, she talked about how she basically hates this kind of elite thing with golf courses and that she always adheres to the dress code. Not to forget, the 29-year-old is famous for her bold opinions on various golf and non-golf matters.

Paige Spiranac slams the elite mentality in golf

She said, “She went to one of the nicest country clubs in Colorado, they played an event there. And they just finished playing tennis. And they walked into the pro shop to buy something with the gift card that they had from an event you know, a couple of weeks ago, and my mom’s like, they were so rude to us in the clubhouse, it’s like that mentality, that elitist mentality when it comes to golf that really just like grinds my gears.”

Spiranac added, “And so that is why I’m so passionate about dress code. And I think a lot of people miss that when I talk about it. It’s just bizarre. I always follow the dress code. And it’s like people are that rude to me. And it’s like, those are the reasons why golf doesn’t grow. It’s the elitist mentality, and it makes me sick. It literally makes me sick.” Moreover, Paige’s words prove how sometimes golf clubs can humiliate a golfer. At the same time, it is also how this barrier in the sport inhibits the growth of golf. Is Paige right?
