Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are both legends in the field of golf. Despite their longtime rivalry, Woods and Mickelson have played a few memorable matches in the past. And there was a time when golf star, John Daly, suggested that one of them should be the captain of the 2016 Ryder Cup team.

John Daly suggested the names of Woods and Mickelson for a special position

Daly is known for his colorful attire on the field more than anything else. The golfer has huge respect for Tiger Woods and has supported him during his tough times in the past. And since he wanted to join the LIV Golf league recently, he also has no problems with Mickelson for his decision to be in the new league.

There was a time when the US Ryder Cup team was harshly defeated in the tournament six times. All these events were played under Tom Watson’s style of captaincy, and Mickelson was clearly against it. And therefore, the PGA of America took responsibility to figure out the correct way to manage the team. They also decided to choose the right captain for the US team.

Both Mickelson and Woods were part of the team. But John Daly, with no experience of playing in the Ryder Cup, had a suggestion to make. Daly said, ”My view is that Phil Mickelson should be the next captain…maybe it should be him or Tiger who should be the next captain,”. According to Daly, there was no task force required to take necessary actions. He said that if one of the two legends was the captain, the team would be full of respect for them.

What did Mickelson say about Tiger Woods’ comments about LIV Golf players?

When many players including Lefty joined the LIV Golf league, Woods made a few bold statements about them. The golf legend said that the players who joined the Saudi-backed league had turned their back towards the PGA Tour. His words of disappointment received no response from players other than Mickelson.

And when Lefty was asked about his response to Woods’ statements, he mentioned having huge respect for the golfer as well as his opinion. “I have a lot of respect for him. I respect his opinion.” Mickelson said. It was not surprising for Mickelson to say such kind words about Woods. After all, he was already involved in a lot of controversies joining LIV Golf.
