Following a near two-hour frost, the 105th edition of the PGA Championship finally began on Thursday this week at the Oak Hill Country Club. The biggest names in golf descended upon the renowned course in Rochester, New York, to battle it out for the coveted Wanamaker Trophy.
However, it is LIV’s Bryson DeChambeau who holds the clubhouse lead after darkness suspended play on day 1. Following his round-one heroics, the 29-year-old offered the golf community a glimpse into what could be the reason behind his sensational outing on the greens! And surprisingly, it had nothing to do with his incredible swing!

In a day that saw the likes of Jon Rahm and Matt Fitzpatrick struggle, Bryson DeChambeau steadily rose to the top of the leaderboard. On a course that many have touted as being similar to Winged Foot, the turf for the golfer’s 2020 U.S. Open win, a significantly slimmer DeChambeau carded an impressive 4-under at the 70-par course!
After his incredible round, the golf pro spoke to the press, talking about his journey to date in the sport and how his insane body transformation had certainly helped him get to where he is. But what is the reason behind the LIV pro’s notable physical transformation? “Well, a lot of diet changes and eating a lot going down to 5000 calories down to 2,900, whatever it is now,” he said.

Per DeChambeau, his new weight loss regimen saw him lose all his water weight. “I lost 18 pounds in 24 days. It was crazy,” he further reflected. Last year, the golfer sat out of the PGA Championship as he recovered from surgery on his left hand and will be hoping to make up for it this time around.
He also had a forgettable Masters outing last month, where he failed to make the cut at the Augusta National. On Thursday, the newly-transformed DeChambeau returned for the year’s second major to post six birdies and two bogeys for an opening round 66, the best score among players who completed all 18 rounds.
What does DeChambeau’s new diet look like?
Despite losing most of his bulk, the former U.S. Open champion’s speed and strength were a sight to behold during the first round. Speaking to the press after, DeChambeau also shed light on his current diet. The LIV pro talked about giving up on food that “inflames” his body, something he figured out with the help of a Zoomer peptide test.

However, the test came at a high cost! DeChambeau found out that he was allergic to many foods that he loved, like wheat, gluten, corn, and dairy. “Pretty much everything I liked, I couldn’t eat,” he expressed. “I’ve lost all this inflammation, lost a lot of fat, and slimmed down like crazy.”
The PGA Championship is set to resume on Friday. Currently, Eric Cole sits one place ahead of the LIV golfer, but he has played only 14 rounds. The World No. 122 will have to finish his first-round play on Friday as darkness curtailed the course on Thursday.
