Paige Spiranac opens up on Phil Mickelson’s comments

In the latest episode of her podcast ‘Playing A Round with Paige Renee’, Spiranac mentioned how Mickelson’s interview was anything but emotional and mildly bizarre. “We had Phil being Phil, where he gave this interesting press conference where he was talking about his prior comments, and basically said that never happened,” she said.

Spiranac also spoke about the same and a weird henna tattoo that Mickelson sported before the Jeddah event. “Like there was no interview like it never happened. And he had this weird henna tattoo of himself, his logo of him jumping. It was just beyond weird,” he said. “It was so weird and so bizarre and so Phil.”

Mickelson made those comments during a presser at the LIV Golf event in Jeddah. He declined to react to his comments, reiterating that he never did an interview with American sportswriter Alan Shipnuck. It was reported that he made controversial statements about the Saudi regime in that piece, which Mickelson denied.

Furthermore, Spiranac expressed her bewilderment over Mickelson’s reaction to Shipnuck’s reports. “Phil is like we never talked, it never happened. It wasn’t an interview and Alan’s like he called me and he initiated this conversation,” she said.

The ex-golfer took a stand on Shipnuck’s side, saying the prominent writer wouldn’t have made such silly accusations without further proof. “And so yeah, I don’t think we’ll ever know who was right who was wrong, but it just sounds like a weird thing to lie about,” she said. “Like why would Allen lie about that and pull these quotes out of nowhere? It just doesn’t seem like he would put his reputation and his career at risk with just false quotes.”

Mickelson finished a lowly 37th in the 48-member event LIV Jeddah event. The 6-time Major Championship winner shot a score of one-over par after a dismal performance across the three rounds.
