DP World Tour golfer reveals his first impression upon hearing about the merger

The golfer in context is none other than Mike Lorenzo-Vera, who is an engaging professional, to say the least. The 38-year-old opened up about his reactions, which, at one point, made him believe that the whole thing was a hoax.

“We thought it was a joke,” he said while discussing the June 6 announcement. “People make you believe we’re under attack and they’re just planning on something else. They make you believe they’re an enemy and try to take your tour down and then merge with them. It’s a huge s***show.”

Furthermore, Lorenzo-vera chastised the PGA TOUR board and its officials for its decision to merge, despite a scathing relationship with LIV Golf Series. Like many in his trade, the golfer was willing to a stream of transparent communication with his employers, even if it went beyond the players’ authority.

“The way it works looks totally like a private business. Just tell us, ‘Guys you are not able with your sportsmen brain to handle the business side. We take care of that and you have nothing to say about it,’” he said.

Why Mike Lorenzo-Vera doesn’t blame Keith Pelley for the merger

Despite his part in the $3 billion-worth union, very little has been spoken about DP TOUR CEO Keith Pelley. Indeed, while Jimmy Dunne and HE Yasir Al-Rumayyan filled news headlines after the announcement, there were no places for LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman and Pelley.

But in his chief’s defense, Lorenzo-Vera claimed that he was unsure of Pelley’s involvement in the merger. “I’m not even sure Keith knew anything,” he said. “I give him the benefit of the doubt but when you hear about how it happened his name was out of the discussion. Greg Norman’s name was out of the discussion.”
