The PGA Tour follows the basic format of a four-day tournament where a cut is made after the second day. Those players who failed to make the cut fell back and had to exit the event. Then the game proceeds with almost half of the field of what they get started with on Thursday.

However, for 2024, the PGA Tour copied LIV Golf, which follows a no-cut policy and only allows a limited number of players to participate in selected tournaments. Like many would imagine, this step from Jay Monahan and the Tour caught a lot of heat, and it’s still not blown over seeing as to how a PGA Tour pro is now trashing them for it!

Canadian pro golfer makes an honest confession about the PGA Tour and its new policies

It was a good year for Canadian golfer Nick Taylor. In June, he became the first Canadian player since 1954 to win the RBC Canadian Open. Leaving behind Tommy Fleetwood in a tight play, Taylor went in to win the third PGA Tour title of his career at the Oakdale Golf & Country Club. However, when it comes to the sport, there is one thing that makes him very unhappy: the PGA Tour’s revised limited field play!

Taylor recently made an appearance on the Golf Subpar podcast, where Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz questioned him about his opinions on the matter. Knost said that he hates the no-cut, smaller field. The top players love it since it’s guaranteed money, but how does an underdog like Taylor put up with it? In his response, the golf pro agreed with the host’s sentiments. In reference to how his name came up a lot, the Canadian golfers said that the top players hated it.

He continued that it is nice to see the top golfers on top of the leaderboard, but the fans also love a good underdog story like his own. But with a 70-player field, that advantage is taken away. He adds, “It’s a shame I’ve there’s a way to play it. And now but I think it’s a shame that you will look at the US Open. There’s always an underdog story.”

As per his talk on the podcast, it is very clear that Taylor feels very strongly about this one change in particular out of all the changes the tour has made this year. And if it were up to him, he’d get rid of it!

Nick Talor hopes the format will soon go away

Ever since its creation, LIV has followed a no-cut policy. The players only had to play three rounds with an assured paycheck on Sunday. This is one of the perks that lured many golfers away from the PGA Tour.

Taylor hopes that following this pattern is not good for the American League, and after a year of experimenting, it will be removed. He stated, “Maybe there’ll be a year, and they’ll realize it, and they’ll change it back. There’s been so many changes. Who knows, but I think the majority of guys are not a big fan.”

The ball of course is in the PGA Tour board’s court. They will make the final decision about continuing or revoking it, and only time will tell what that will be.
