Smylie Kaufman, a longtime friend of JT,said “It’s not easy to be friends with Tiger Woods,” and he’s right. “He has been able to become, almost, Tiger’s younger brother. To form a relationship like that, Tiger has to see either greatness or just a little bit of himself [in you].”
PGA Tour legend Fred Couples, thinks it’s simpler than that. He says that he asked Tiger if many people come up to him and ask questions, and surprisingly, the answer was no. However, Couples noticed the special bond between JT and Tiger and asked about it. Tiger simply replied that they just enjoy each other’s company.

Thomas and Woods are such good friends that they often spend time together off the green. One of their favorite activities is pitching contests in Tiger’s backyard in Hobe Sound, Florida. The 15 times major winner’s palatial backyard in Hobe Sound, is a place where only a few professional golfers have an open invite. These contests have undoubtedly played a role in JT’s mastery of strokes gained around the green, which even Kaufman describes as insane.
The golf legend has also helped Justin become a more complete player, imparting his incredible shot variety to his protégé. According to Thomas, he has learned a lot from Woods, and it’s all there in the “freakin’ zone” Woods was in as the player-captain at the 2019 Presidents Cup. Three years later, ‘Little Brother’ still talks about it like a spiritual awakening.
Thanks to Tiger’s influence, the two time major winner now has the confidence to tackle pins that most people can’t. His short game has improved dramatically, and his access to Woods’ backyard and St. Andrews makes him one of the few pros who can say they have played there. With Woods by his side, Thomas is well on his way to becoming one of the all-time greats of the game.
