Earlier this month, a PGA Tour announcement shocked the golf world. The Tour announced that they were providing players with exemptions to play in a Saudi-sponsored event. Three Tour players will be playing in the event, including one-time PGA Tour winner Lucas Herbert. The golf pro is set to see his former colleagues and LIV Golf defectors. Does he too share the idea that it will be a tense field? Let us find out.

Many were awestruck by the Tour’s decision to give players exemptions. They feared that the collision of the players from the two sides would be catastrophic. Many suggested that tensions on the course would be strong.
The PGA Tour star takes a stand against the public
Herbert does not share the opinion of the media or the public. He believes that, despite the field including LIV and PGA Tour golfers, it will be the same as other tournaments. “You might read about some added tension in some media reports, but I don’t think there will be any,” he said in a recent Golf Digest report.

The golf pro went on to say that at the event, all of the players will have one goal in mind: to win. “Once we’re out there playing it doesn’t feel any different,” he explained. He stated that while on tour, golfers’ schedules frequently did not coincide, resulting in seeing some players far less frequently during the season. Herbert believes that’s how it will be with the LIV defectors.

Herbert added that professional golf demanded such situations. He claimed that at the other events where the PGA Tour players and LIV golf players played together in Australia and Europe, it was quite a normal situation. “It’s not like a team sport,” he said. “At Wentworth and at the Aussie events, I don’t think anything had changed.”

Herbert shuts down LIV Golf move rumors
Due to his decision to play at the Saudi International, many speculated that Herbert was contemplating a move to the other side. But his comments in the interview shut them down. He explained that he was playing at the event because it fit well with the proximity of his schedule. The money was, of course, a bonus.

“A lot of things added up to make sense to play it,” he claimed, stating World Ranking points were one of them. He also added that he was looking forward to returning to the PGA Tour and competing in the WM Phoenix Open after the event.“It’s going to be an exciting season on the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour,” he further stated.
