For many, the sport of golf can be frustrating, even if you have a Major to your name. In 2020, the Scientist had his first taste of Major victory at the US Open in New York City. However, a year later at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California, DeChambeau attempted to retain his US Open title. Nonetheless, it failed to meet the expectations, as the then 27-year-old shared his thoughts on his performance.
Bryson DeChambeau wasn’t confident at the 2021 US Open
DeChambeau had a decent start at the Major. He was just one stroke off the lead at 2-under in the final round. However, the 29-year-old’s game then went off the road, as DeChambeau recorded back-to-back bogeys at the 11th and 12th hole. To add more dismay, he recorded a quadruple bogey at the 17th hole. This ended up in him scoring 44 on the back nine, finishing tied to 26th position.

Following a frustrating end to the Major, Bryson DeChambeau then had to face the reporters. “I didn’t get off the rails at all. It’s golf”, said the golfer. He then discussed how he has won in certain events despite having worse performances than the 2021 US Open.
DeChambeau said, “I’ve had plenty of times where I hit it way worse than today and I won. It’s just one of those things where I didn’t have the right breaks happen at the right time. I could have easily gotten to seven-, eight-under today”.
The 29-year-old then talked about how he lacked confidence by saying, “I just wasn’t fully confident with the golf swing and just got a little unlucky in the rough and a couple other places.” After completing his rant on his frustrating performance, the Scientist then had some words for his critics.
DeChambeau had a message for his haters
Considering his series of poor performances leading to the 2020 US Open, DeChambeau said, “I don’t even care”. The Scientist then talked about how some of the fans believe that there has been a change in his attitude.

DeChambeau then sent a message to all the critics. He said, “People think that—I’ve changed a lot, attitude-wise and everything. It’s frustrating in the moment when it’s happening, but afterwards for me now, I don’t really care as much. I’ve already won it”.
A year later, things only got worse for the Scientist, as he ended up finishing tied to 56th position at the 2022 US Open. However, he did have something to cherish later, after finishing in the top 10 at The Open Championship earlier this year. Many people are still hoping for a lot from Bryson DeChambeau, as he is widely considered the future of golf.
