Jack Nicklaus Gets Frank About Phil Mickelson and Offers Him Valuable Advice

Phil Mickelson is on a break from competitive golf ever since making a public apology for his comments on the PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed golf league. Moreover, he has been in the limelight due to the LIV Golf Invitational involvement. Recently, golf legend Jack Nicklaus spoke about the same and had a piece of good advice for Mickelson.
In a piece written by Micheal Bamberger on May 16th, 2022, for the Fire Pit Collective, the renowned golf writer added crucial information about Phil Mickelson and the new LIV Golf Invitational Series. Not to forget, the six-time major championship winner is among the famous professionals who had asked for a release from the PGA Tour to play in the opening event of the new Tour at Centurion Club in June.

Moreover, on the same night, Jimmy Robert, a famous NBC Reporter, and Nicklaus did a Q&A in the ballroom. A short clipping about the same broke out on Twitter, in which Nicklaus talks about Mickelson and LIV Golf, and Jack gets frank about Mickelson.

In the clip, Roberts mentions the Lefty’s interest in the Saudi-backed golf league. To which, the golf legend has a very bold reply. The golden bear says, “He should go then. He has already made known his lack of interest in the new league.” And later Nicklaus adds when Jimmy says Phil will go alone to join the LIV Golf. Jack says “He’ll have a great tour.”
Moreover, after that Micheal mentions calling Nickalus and talking about the 45-time PGA Tour winner, Mickelson. In the process, he reveals the valuable advice that Jack had for Phil. The 82-year-old said: “My advice to Phil? My advice to Phil would be to be patient. The world is a very forgiving place. But he’s the one he has to decide where he wants to play and what he wants to do.”
Moreover, Nicklaus’ words prove his love and fondness for Mickelson. At the same time, it also shows that Jack never backs down from helping and providing advice to other professionals.

When did Phil Mickelson win his first PGA Championship title?
Phil won his maiden PGA Championship title in 2005 at Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey. He won the major championship event with an overall score of four-under-par. Lefty won with a narrow one-shot advantage after the final round. Moreover, he carded a final round of two-over-par, 72 to finish on the top of the leaderboard. The 51-year-old professional’s final round included one birdie and three bogeys on the opening nine holes. As a result, he moved out in two-over-par, 36. Mickelson made two birdies and two bogey’s on the back nine to end his round.
