Jack Nicklaus Makes a Scathing Comment About Donald Trump and the PGA of America

The 2022 PGA Championship at the beautiful yet challenging Southern Hills Country Club will start on Thursday, May 19th. But, the second major championship event of the year, earlier, was going to be conducted at a different venue in New Jersey. Moreover, the legendary professional Jack Nicklaus recently spoke about the same and revealed the reason behind changing venues.

Jack Nicklaus opens up on the change in venue for 104th PGA Championship

In 2014, the PGA of America announced that the 2022 PGA Championship would occur at the Trump Bedminster. The Trump National Golf Club Bedminster, New Jersey, would host one of the year’s famous and prestigious major championship events. However, on January 10th, 2021, the PGA of America announced that the Donald Trump-owned golf course would no longer host the 2022 PGA Championship.

Instead, Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa will host the 104th PGA Championship. Recently, the 82-year-old former professional Nicklaus commented on Donald Trump and the PGA of America. He talked about the changing of the venue. Not to forget, Trump owns not less than 17 golf courses all over the globe. At the same time, the former US President is an avid golfer himself and enjoys swinging the golf club.

In a piece that the famous American Author Michael Bamberger wrote for the Fire Pit Collective on May 16th, 2022, he revealed Jack’s comments about scrapping the PGA Championship from Trump Bedminster. Jack also revealed what Trump said about the event being moved from his golf course.

Jack said, “He hasn’t said a word about it. Not to me.” Moving forward, Micheal asks the golden bear about his views on the change of the venues for this year’s PGA Championship.

To which Nicklaus replied, “I like Seth Waugh. Seth didn’t need this job. He took the job because he thought he could give the PGA of America some good guidance. And I think he’s doing that. But this move is cancel culture. Donald Trump may be a lot of things, but he loves golf and he loves this country. He’s a student of the game and a formidable figure in the game. What he does in the future in golf will depend on what the cancel culture will allow him to do.”

Moreover, Nickalus’ words may seem to point to the real reason behind changing the venue. At the same time, it also depicts how the golf legend thinks about the event being changed from Trump’s golf course to Southern Hills. Not to forget, Jack has himself designed various golf courses for Trump.
