Jack Nicklaus shares his experiences on the golf course with his colorblindness
Nicknamed the Golden Bear, the 82-year-old Jack Nicklaus is widely considered the greatest golfer of all time. Years after retiring from professional golfing, he still holds many records in the sport, including winning the most number of majors.
While there are many golfers now, there isn’t one who anyone can pick as the next great player. And the veteran golfer knows just the reason behind it.

“I think they would be a better player the more they rely on themselves,” Nicklaus stated. “…then there won’t be a question in their mind when they pick up that club and hit it,” Nicklaus expressed what he thinks about the young golfers relying too much on their caddie in the Drop Zone podcast of Golf.com.
The 18-time major winning champion thinks the young players rely too much on their and other resources. However, he doesn’t think they are at fault as they are trained to do so. “I think that if they have their own conviction of what to do,” the Golden Bear voiced his opinion. “I think they probably would do better in the long run.”

Furthermore, he added, “I personally feel they would all be better players if they relied more on themselves.”

“He wanted me to figure out how to play, what to do, and how to do it,” Nicklaus explained how the veteran golfer Jack Grout used to mentor him. “That’s why I relied on.”

Furthermore, he explained that the co-founder of Augusta National, Bobby Jones, used to give similar advice to him. According to Jones, one can only become a golfer if he can fix his problem on a course.
The veteran also added that he never used to discuss the club or yardage with his caddies. According to him, Willie Peterson, with whom he won 5 Masters, used to be a cheerleader for him. Meanwhile, he asked for confirmation about his yardages from Angelo Argea, his 20+ years caddie.

However, it is not the same with his son Jackie, who is also his caddie and a golfer. Although he asks him about what to do at a certain time, Nicklaus added that he has never done anything that he didn’t agree with.
