The 2022 Masters starts in just one day at Augusta National. Before the onset of the major championship, past champions at the Masters gathered at the club for the traditional champion’s dinner on Tuesday. Jack Nicklaus, who was also present at the dinner, recently revealed the best moments of the feast.

The long-lasting tradition of the champion’s dinner at the clubhouse was first started in 1952. Ben Hogan was the host of the opening feast at the Masters. This year the Japanese golf sensation Hideki Matsuyama hosted the annual dinner. He won the major championship event back in 2021. As a result, he became the first Japanese professional to win a major event.

Jack Nicklaus’ Locker Room Note to John Daly Before His PGA Championship Win: What Was Written?

He tweeted, Was perhaps best @TheMasters Club Dinner I recall. Great company & conversation. Food was sensational! Best part was when Hideki Matsuyama, who doesn’t speak English well, gave a 3-min speech in English—without a single note. He added, “@GaryPlayer then responded. In Japanese. With notes.”

Not to forget, the champion’s dinner this year had a Japanese menu. Starting from assorted Sushi and chicken skewers for appetizers and then moving on to miso-glazed black cod and wagyu beef ribeye. And for the desert, the past winners were served a tempting Japanese strawberry shortcake.

Hideki’s first major championship win

Matsuyama emphatically won the 2021 Masters to claim his maiden major championship title. The 30-year-old also won his first green jacket with an overall score of 10-under-par. As a result, he won the event with a one-shot lead after his final round at Augusta National Golf Club. Hideki carded a final round of one-over-par 73 to wrap up his 2021 major championship event with a win.

His final round of 73 featured three birdies and one bogey on the opening nine holes. As a result, Matsuyama moved out in two-under-par, 34. Moreover, he made four bogeys and only one single birdie on the back nine on route to a famous victory at the gold course. Will Zalatoris finished as the runner-up at the event. He ended the event with an overall score of nine-under-par and had to settle for a solo second position.
