Jack Nicklaus Sympathized With Tiger Woods Going Through ‘Difficult Times’ After Earl Woods’ Demise in 2006

It was a sad day when Earl Woods breathed his last at his California situated house in 2006. Undoubtedly, Tiger Woods was shattered after losing his father. But there was someone else who was hurt by his demise. It was 18 times major championship winner, Jack Nicklaus. He also lost his father during adulthood, and therefore, could relate to Woods’s pain.

He talked to The Augusta Chronicle after Earl’s demise, and shared his feelings about Tiger Woods’ relationship with his father.

He claimed that Sr. Woods had never participated in a PGA Tour tournament and would never do so. However, he had an immeasurable impact on golf and was the first to realize it. His efforts gave us the greatest golfer, and we were lucky to witness his son play. However, the pain of losing Earl could not be ignored by Nicklaus, and he shared his thoughts.

In comparison to most parenting role models, Earl Woods, a wartime soldier, left behind a living legacy. The relationship that Woods and his father shared incredibly impressed Nicklaus. He shared his feelings and said, “I also have admired and related to the close bond that he and his father have shared over Tiger’s lifetime.” The legendary golfer pointed out the similarities and said, “My father was my best friend, my mentor, and perhaps my greatest support system. Earl was all of that to Tiger.” Sr. Woods had complete faith in his son’s caliber ad motivated him.

He was aware of the pain the PGA Tour pro was going through. The retired golfer’s father passed away when he was 30 years old. It created a void in his life that no one could fill. The same happened with the GOAT, Woods. He also lost track of his game and isolated himself. Sr. Woods was Tiger’s biggest supporter and guide in his life. Nicklaus acknowledged the void but appreciated Woods for handling it in the best way possible. He said, “Tiger has shown amazing resolve and focus while dealing with his father’s illness, and I know he is going through an enormously difficult time.”

Woods and Nicklaus have a very public relationship. The pro golfer has been aiming to break Nicklaus’ 18 times major championship record. However, the former golfer with 117 professionals has always respected Woods greatly. The 15 times major championship golfer impressed Nicklaus with “his love for the game to the way he approaches competition.”
