The month of August has been quite eventful for Brooks Koepka. He and his wife, Jena Sims, had their first baby early in the month. The LIV Bedminster event got over around mid-August, and later in the month, his Ryder Cup spot came through. In a recent press conference, he got to speak about the changes in his life.

While prepping for the LIV Chicago event, team captains Koepka and Cameron Smith attended a pre-match press conference. Among other questions, the former also answered a question about how being a father has changed his life, and his career in particular.

Brooks Koepka strongly agreed that being a dad has definitely changed the way he approaches his game, his career, and his life. He initially felt parenting is about interactions with the child alone. Later, however, he realized it was more about putting in the hard work and all the behind-the-scenes efforts.

Koepka explained that it’s more about being a good role model. “I think trying to get a good example.” He acknowledged that the two-month-old baby is still not in a place to witness what is happening with dad. He felt that this could be very handy as years pass by.

“I know he’s 2 months old and has no clue about that now but it becomes a hell of a lot easier when you get older. I just want him to see what hard work is.” Looks like Koepka wants to be a father who works hard in pursuit of his dreams, inspiring his children to learn from the example he sets for them.

Speaking of hard work, the 33-year-old claimed he has mostly been practicing the past few weeks. Naturally, the anticipation of the Ryder Cup probably keeps him churning out practice hours each day.

In response to a question about his preparations for the Ryder Cup, he explained how he has been gearing up for the mammoth event.

The question addressed how Koepka has always been keen on his efforts to prepare for major events in the past few years. It followed up and touched upon his mindset towards the upcoming Ryder Cup.

Koepka had played in the Ryder Cup three times before. The past three Ryder Cup events were in the years 2016, 2018, and 2021. Twice, he was on the winning side, in 2016 and 2021.

The three-time Ryder Cup veteran claimed that this is one of the six or seven biggest events in the sport. He mentioned how he enjoys more attention on him. “I like it when there’s a little bit more eyeballs, a little bit more pressure.”
