Major Championship winners Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka were victorious as separate teams on Friday’s morning fourballs. However, a change in plans meant the two were paired together for Saturday afternoon foursomes. They lost out to the European pair of Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose by a score of 2 & 1.
They remained winless on Sunday’s singles matches as Team USA were humbled 17.5 – 10.5. However, the troubles were just beginning to unfold. Allegedly, teammates Johnson and Koepka got into a heated argument in the European team room, with the former’s partner, Paulina Gretzky, also at the scene.
Team USA captain Jim Furyk’s assessment of the incident
Notably, Koepka played down the talk of an argument, denying it ever happened in the first place. However, contradicting statements were made by Furyk later, who confirmed the dispute.

However, the 52-year-old played down the severity of the incident. “Whatever altercation started, or what happened, it was very brief,” Furyk said of the bust-up between Johnson and Koepka. “It was very short. Neither one of them really took anything out of it.”
He also explained the bond between Koepka and Johnson, claiming the two were like “brothers.” “They’re like brothers. Brothers may argue, brothers get into it. But they’re as close as they’ve ever been, and it really had no effect on either one of them,” he reiterated.
