Since turning pro in 2013, Jin-Young Ko has begun stacking up wins on the LPGA of Korea Tour. And while many assumed that would all end when she moved to the LPGA Tour, they were soon proved wrong. Ko has consistently been grabbing wins on the tour and recently grabbed yet another by beating world No. 2, Nelly Korda. Not only did Ko take home her 14th Tour event trophy with the win, but she also created history with it, accomplishing what no one has ever been able to do before.

Jin-Young Ko defeats Nelly Korda in a historic finish

This week’s LPGA Tour event, the LPGA Women’s World Championship, was underway in Singapore, and only just hours ago saw a finish. At the Sentosa Golf Club, the South Korean LPGA Tour star finished the final round off with an easy putt just inches away from the 18th hole. She beat one of her biggest rivals on the Tour, Korda by 2 strokes, with a score of 3 under par.

Korda too had shot an incredible 69 at the 72-par course, but that wasn’t enough to overtake Ko since she had ended the third round two strokes behind her too. Ko had managed to defend the world championship title, which was in fact her last win on the Tour before today. This was an incredible feat that had never been accomplished at the HSBC World Championship before since it first began 15 years ago.

Her hard exterior melted down, and she wept with joy as Korda walked up to her and graciously hugged and congratulated her. “Tears of joy,” said the LPGA Tour, which posted the video of her winning putt and emotional win on Instagram.
