Daly recalled that he was driving home from a bar with his brother. He admitted he was overspeeding and was driving at 55-60 mph in a zone with a maximum speed limit of 45 mph. However, it was not just speed that gave them the near-death experience. “They’d just fixed the side of the road, and there was gravel,” he said. “I made a sharp turn, it was kind of wet, and the back right tire just started sliding. Daly said that the car was a Blazer and it flipped twice after they slid for a long time. Apparently, not following the safety rules correctly is what saved Daly’s life. He stated that if he were wearing the seatbelt, he would have been crushed in his seat. But luckily, he “wound up” in his brother’s seat, who was thrown out during the flips! He said the car was almost intact, except for the dashboard in the back.

Daly once donated money to an unlucky fan’s children

The golf world has given its fans new surprises in each tournament. But there have also been unfortunate times when the world wished for things to be different. There was a time when a fan was hit by lightning during Daly’s game and died on the spot. It was a heartbreaking day for everyone, especially for the fan’s family.

But after Daly won the tournament, he decided to help the fan’s folks and donated $30,000 to his daughters for their college education. He also got a mail from them 14 years later about one of the girls going to medical school. Daly was relieved to find out about the girls having access to good education after their tough period.
