John Daly is widely popular for his free-spirited life. He is one of the most down-to-earth golfers one could ever meet. Despite being popular, he still talks freely and pours his heart out whenever somebody asks him anything. Interestingly, many people are attracted to this aspect of him and want to live like him.

However, the golfer doesn’t think like that. According to him, he is not a good role model.

“If you look at me as a role model,” said Daly. “If you do the opposite of John Daly, you’re going to do really well in life,”

Why doesn’t John Daly want you to consider him as a role model?
Being free-spirited looks fun from the outside. However, if you consider his lifestyle, it is not the healthiest anyone would look up to.

The golfer is infamous for his drinking and smoking habits. He had tried to deal with issues by going to the rehabilitation centers. However, he would always relapse. Daly even had lost endorsement deals from Callaway Golf because of such an incident. According to the five-year contract between him and the company, they were free to walk away from the deal if he would ever start drinking.

In the interview with Graham Bensinger, Daly had revealed that he doesn’t drink water. The golfer explained that he had replaced water with diet coke. Recently, to minimize the intake of coke, Daly has switched to milk. However, he still adds a lot of chocolate syrup to make it tastier. Daly also revealed that he used to often eat from fast-food outlets, including McDonald’s and Burger King.
The unhealthy lifestyle of the golfer is something one should reconsider before making him your role model. However, his achievements in golf are something anyone could dream of.
Daly has won 16 championship titles, including two majors; he had won the PGA Championship in 1991 and the Open Championship in 1995. Notably, the golfer was the 9th and final alternative available for the event.

Daly has some reasons to believe that he is not worthy of being a role model to anyone. Like two sides of a coin, there is always a better side of him. Although he is a famous and talented golfer, he still talks from his heart. And that is something anyone could look up to.
