John Daly knows how to live his life to the fullest. He can be an incredible golfer who was considered the longest hitter on the PGA Tour for a long time. At the same time, he also can be a free-spirited soul who likes to enjoy his life without any restrictions.
Recently, the former major champion, Steve Elkington, appeared as a guest on GOLF’s Subpar podcast. The Tour Champion pro shared one instance where Daly took up a dangerous challenge in a casino and proved his colleague’s spur-of-a-moment mentality.

A challenge to remember at the Casino
According to Elkington, he and Daly paid a visit to a Casino once, and some South Africans recognized them on their way to the bathroom. He clearly remembers his friend accepting to play rugby with them as soon as they suggested, whereas he declined the offer.
“Daly goes down into a three-point stance,” the Australian golfer explained the game in the podcast. “He (Daly) comes out of his stance after these three guys,” he added. “And they absolutely poleaxed him into the wall behind him.”
“I thought he might’ve seriously had a concussion or something after the first time,” Elkington explained. As a friend and a fellow golfer, the former major champion was concerned about Daly‘s health. However, all the long-hitter cared about at the moment was winning the challenge. He went on to play the second round after taking off his boots to get a better grip.
The next round had the same result; the South Africans crushed the 2-time major champion. Elkington explained that he helped the American golfer to sit on the stairs. He added, “I say (to Daly), ‘Mate, are you ok?’ He said, ‘Yeah, I’m fine.’”

Other than some rules, rugby doesn’t have a lot of differences from American football. And John Daly used to play as a punter and place-kicker for his high school team.
