John Daly snaps at a fan during the Australian Open

John Daly had one of the most horrendous rounds of golf as he carded a 78 at the Australian Open in 2008. And while he was on the final hole, Daly smashed a fan’s camera against a tree in a rage. The two-time major championship winner was annoyed as he felt the camera was too close to his face. However, people believe it was his frustration at having a bad round.

“I was looking to take a drop, and the camera was six inches away from my face,” revealed Daly in his statement. “If I was 10-under par, I would have felt the same. My eyes are still burning from the flash of the camera. I feel it was very rude to put a camera that close to anybody’s face in any situation. The guy that had the camera had already taken a dozen shots at close range,” concluded Long John.

However, he had no case to answer, as Golf Australia blamed the fan for this incident. They revealed that there are boards on all gates that say there are no cameras allowed. As a result, the golf fan bore the brunt of the blame.

Meanwhile, the Australian Open director accepted that Daly’s behavior wasn’t appropriate. “Of course he’s sorry. It’s certainly not right, but people react differently to different circumstances,” believes the Australian Open director.

Moreover, John Daly missed the cut at the event even after having a decent second round. He carded 72 in round two, but his +7 on day one restricted him from making it to the weekend.
