If I had to make an educated guess on a golfer who would pass out in a bar and refuse any help, it would be John Daly. The colorful yet brash character ended up in a similar situation in 2008 and had to be placed in custody for up to 24 hours.
Why did John Daly end up in jail?

In the month of October 2008, Daly passed out intoxicated at Hooters, a popular restaurant chain. Having lost consciousness, the bar staff called paramedics on the site. However, according to EMS personnel, Daly refused to go to the hospital.

“Officers then made contact with Mr. Daly who appeared extremely intoxicated and uncooperative,” said a file report. “Mr. Daly repeatedly refused to be escorted to the hospital and was eventually asked to leave the premises by Hooters’ personnel.”
However, Daly didn’t have a means of transport and out of concern for his level of intoxication, police were called upon. They took him to the local station in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and then placed him in custody for 24 hours to sober up.
Daly wasn’t charged with any offense and was free to leave after the due procedure. Interestingly, he recently teamed up with his son, John Daly II, to become brand ambassadors of the Hooter club.
How bad is John Daly’s drinking addiction?
“It’s in my blood,” Daly said when asked about his drinking problem. With time, Daly has stopped worrying about it. One of his earlier sponsors, Callaway Golf, reportedly had a clause that restricted Daly to stay off the bottle and out of casinos.
To come up with a solution to the problem, Daly had a crazy answer. “I don’t want to quit drinking,” he said. “I just don’t want to get drunk.”
Daly was adamant that it was either golf coupled with drinking or nothing at all. “It was either golf and drinking, or no golf and no drinking,” he said. “I made a decision to keep playing golf. This is what I do. This is my talent.”

Daly admits that pressure to stay sober drove him to drink again. He said he was trying to live up to everyone else’s expectations, and “you can’t make somebody do something they don’t want to do.”
The winner of two major championships turned 56 this year, but there are still no signs of ‘Long John’ slowing down. Like he said back then, “It’s still one day at a time.”
