John Daly Reveals the Longest Drive He Has Ever Hit In His Golfing Career

John Daly was the longest hitter of the golf ball in the late 90s and the early 2000s. Hence, he is also well-known as Long John. Moreover, his motto on the golf course has always been to grip it and rip it, and he continues to follow the same to date as well. He is also famous for his unique lifestyle that probably no other sportsperson has. 

Furthermore, not many people know, but John Daly once hit a drive of 806-yards. Yes, you read that right; he has bombed a drive of 806 yards. However, it is crucial to note that it was not on a golf course. He achieved this feat in LA on a runway. Hence, he got assistance from the ground as well.

Moreover, John Daly gave an interview where one host asked him what was the longest drive he has ever had on record? “806 yards,” said John, and everyone in the room was surprised. However, he soon made it clear that it wasn’t on a golf course.

“LA International airport. It was on a runway. The first drive, I broke a window on a G5 as it went far right,” revealed Daly. It just kept bouncing and bouncing. Furthermore, he revealed the equipment that he used to hit this shot. “It was the Wilson after I came back from the British Open. It was the Invex driver.”

What is the longest drive by John Daly on the PGA Tour?

There is no official record of his longest drive, but he was the longest on the tour from 1992 to 2002. In almost every year, he averaged over 300 yards, which was a huge deal back in those days. However, John’s inconsistency with his approach and game on the greens held him from winning more tournaments.

However, Daly managed to bag five PGA Tours, three DP World Tours, and two major championships as well. Currently, he mostly competes on the PGA Tour Champions, which is a senior tour. Moreover, recently Daly won the 2021 PNC Championship with his son John Daly II, where Tiger Woods and his son Charlie finished runner-up.
