Rumor mills are abuzz that LIV Golf is trying its best to add Jon Rahm to its party. After their 2023 seasons have come to an end, all the golf leagues have indulged in a tight war over the current World No.3 golfer. While the PGA Tour is playing defense, LIV Golf is trying to score big by luring Rahm with a reported $600 million package.

But there is one thing that the Saudi Arabian league cannot offer to the Spanish golfer, and it is something very dear to him. And that is the chance to play in the Ryder Cup. As the European Team recently made a big announcement about the event, it could affect Jon Rahm’s decision to join LIV Golf.

The 2023 Ryder Cup will be historic for many reasons. First, the bitter defeat that Team Europe made its opponents taste despite their overconfidence. And second, the selection of golfers in Team USA that created much controversy. While the selection of Justin Thomas, who belongs to the PGA Tour, left many baffled, the selection of Brooks Koepka left many fuming.

The fans as well as Europe’s captain were not happy seeing the LIV Golfer in the Ryder Cup. European captain Luke Donald himself didn’t include any LIV Golfers in his team. In the absence of names like Sergio Garcia, who made peace with LIV Golf, Donald earlier said, “I think we all knew when LIV came about and it was approached to a lot of us that if you did that, there were these opportunities.”

He added, “There were these chances that stuff like this could happen, and you could put your potential future in jeopardy. I think everyone knew that.” His team took the trophy home without the presence of any defectors in his team, while the US Team lost despite adding them. After that spectacular win, Donald is ready for two more years! He has shared a video on X, of him holding the Ryder Cup for this announcement.

Donald wiped the Ryder Cup logo on his jacket and asked in the caption, “Two more years, anyone? It’s going to be an honor to lead this amazing team once again in New York. Let’s go #TeamEurope.” If Jon Rahm chooses LIV Golf, then he could lose the chance at the Ryder Cup.

Would Rahm gamble Ryder Cup for LIV Golf?

Jon Rahm understands that playing in the Ryder Cup is not about money but about prestige and the golden opportunity to represent his country on an international platform. This year, under the captaincy of Luke Donald, he enjoyed an amazing victory and took pride in not losing to Team US in their homeland. Going to LIV Golf will be risking this opportunity as long as Donald is the captain.

However, the coming together of golf associations has made a lot of changes in the recent past. So, it is possible that the Ryder Cup asks the European Team to include LIV Golf as well. For now, things are in the air about Jon Rahm and the Ryder Cup. The rumor will be confirmed only after any of the parties involved makes a statement.
