Jordan Spieth was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard in the Genesis Invitational. PGA Tour Communications tweeted, “Spieth signed for a 3 and made a 4 on No. 4.” The 30-year-old made a bogey on the par-3 hole 4 at Riviera after missing a three-footer to save par. Earlier, it was rumored that Spieth, like Tiger Woods, developed flu-like symptoms and withdrew because of that. 

Spieth said in a statement, “Today, I signed for an incorrect scorecard and stepped out of the scoring area, after thinking I went through all procedures to make sure it was correct.” Jordan Spieth rushed towards the clubhouse after finishing his round. 

As per USGA guidelines, if the returned score is higher than the actual score, then the higher score will stay for the player. Contrarily, if it’s lower than the player’s actual score, they are disqualified. Adding further, Spieth wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Rules are rules, and I take full responsibility. I love this tournament and golf course as much as any on so it hurts to not have a run at the weekend. Really appreciated the support in LA.”

The 13-time PGA Tour winner was tied for the 20th spot on the leaderboard after the second round. Jordan Spieth made four bogeys and a double bogey to card a 2-over 73 on Friday. It was a roller-coaster ride for the 13-time PGA Tour winner. He started with a birdie on par-5 hole 1, finishing the front nine with a 2-under 33. 

Spieth’s game faltered on the back nine. Starting off with a bogey on par 4 on the 10th, the 30-year-old capped off his round with a double bogey on the 18th. The 13-time PGA Tour winner is still on the hunt for silverware after his 2022 RBC Heritage victory. In his three outings this season, Jordan Spieth made two top-ten finishes, the last of which came at the WM Phoenix Open. Spieth’s disqualification came on the heels of Tiger Woods’s withdrawal from the Tournament he hosts.

Tiger Woods showed flu-like symptoms and was carted off the course, pressing his head against his palm. Gary Woodland, his playing mate, later revealed that Woods was beside himself during the second round. The four-time PGA Tour winner said, “I saw it, he obviously wasn’t himself, just didn’t look right. Saw that before the round started. It sucks.”
