The luck has been tough in one regard for those defectors who ditched the DP World Tour in favor of LIV Golf. Despite their earnest desire to participate in the Ryder Cup, their wishes remained unfulfilled in light of their previous actions. And the biggest sufferer is Sergio Garcia, whose ugly exit from the European Tour sealed his fate.

However, Garcia found a supporter in Jon Rahm, who was much more vocal about Garcia’s previous experience with the Ryder Cup being a big aid this year. The Spaniard’s skipper, Luke Donald, however, shares a complete opposite view on the matter!

Luke Donald’s strong stand on Garcia’s absence from the 2023 Ryder Cup

The participating teams for the Ryder Cup have reached the designated venue of Marco Simone Golf & Country Club, and before the match, a press conference was held there yesterday. All eyes were on European captain Luke Donald, from whom the media has so much to ask.

When he was asked about Rahm’s recent comments on Garcia, where Jon went to the extent of saying that it’s stupid not to lean on Garcia’s experience, the captain had a strict answer to share. Donald said, “Obviously, we know the situation with Sergio. He resigned his situation five months ago, and once that happened, he was ineligible for me to even consider him.”

He continued, “I know there were some stories about him trying to pay off some fines and stuff. Obviously, we know what the DP World Tour rules are, and once you resign, you cannot reapply for membership until the following year. Again, those things will be decided in the future. Right now, I’m just concentrating on my 12 guys that I have this week.”

Donald added that despite all the controversy, his sole focus right now is dealing with his team over the next six days and providing them with the best opportunity for success. And although it was not clear whether he disagreed with Rahm’s input, he certainly was not 100% thrilled about the mighty views that the 2-time major winner holds in regard to Garcia.

Jon Rahm’s divine views on Sergio Garcia and his Ryder Cup experience

A couple of weeks ago, Rahm participated in the BMW PGA Championship, where he was questioned about the role of vice captains in the backdrop of recent golf divisions and the possibility of including golfers like Garcia to represent Europe.

To this, the Spaniard replied“I think it would be really stupid of anybody not to lean on Sergio García’s experience in the Ryder Cup. I mean, he is the best player Europe has ever had.” The Spaniard added that the LIV star has won the most points and showed his potential time and again. He was also sure that if Garcia was a vice captain, he would certainly lean on him!

The non-selection of Sergio Garcia has been a debatable move, with people left divided on the matter. Clearly, even the team members themselves share polar opposite opinions. Despite that, however, their focus is on one goal right now: winning the Ryder Cup. Tune in to find out if they can!
