Late last year, the Masters Tournament announced that LIV golf players would be playing in the major as well. This seemed to be a big win for the Saudi-backed side in their battle for recognition. While many objected to the Augusta officials’ decisions, others were concerned about the tensions that might occur after the raging fight had left players at each other’s throats. 2-time major winner Ben Crenshaw shared the latter’s worries.

Crenshaw first won the green jacket at Augusta in 1984 and then did so again 11 years later, in 1995. These were his only two major wins throughout his career, and it’s safe to say he values their significance dearly.
Crenshaw expresses his uncertainty about the Masters Tournament
In an interview with Golf Channel, the two-time green jacket holder opened up about his true feelings about the strain between the LIV golfers and tour players. As per Golf monthly, Crenshaw said, regarding the event turning into a media circus, “I hope not, it’s a tournament in which the champion can change his whole life, it’s a life-giving memory, I hope the focus is on the champion and the tournament but I really just don’t know – I’ve been worried about it I’ll be honest.” Crenshaw then explained that he was uncertain as to how things would go down at Augusta.
The 19-time PGA Tour victor was concerned about the significance of the event diminishing in case things turned sour. He was especially concerned about the dinner that preceded the event. “I don’t know what’s going to happen,” he stated. He didn’t want people to forget why they were there.

“Our job is to honour Scottie as the champion,” he said. Crenshaw further added that Scottie deserved to be respected that day for his achievements, “He emerged as one of the best players in the world.”

In the interview, he said, “This thing (LIV Golf) just seems pretty imbalanced.” The PGA Tour veteran claimed that the series could go either way. He claimed that the entire concept was unstable and he was uncertain about it. “I don’t know where it’s going or if it’ll catch on, but it’s very bold,” stated Crenshaw.

But the ex-pro golfer wasn’t a fan of the concept of golfers chasing money. “There are things in golf and life that are more important than money,” he stated. He hoped that golfers would understand that the game was more than that. “I wish that people could value what the game means to so many people,” explained the golfer.
