Just In: Another European Ryder Cup Sensation Joins Rival LIV Golf

This week felt like nothing but a roller coaster ride for the golf fans. With PGA Tour and the DP World Tour combining force to challenge the LIV Golf, and the latter introducing additional events for the 2023 season, it seemed like a chaos. And now, the league has introduced its new player, and he is one of the most valuable Ryder Cup players of Team Europe. 

The Saudi-backed league introduced its new player on Saturday through the live broadcast. It is none other than the current world no. 26, Paul Casey!

Casey, who turned pro in 2000, is one of the prominent players on the DP World Tour. He has won 20 titles worldwide, including a World Golf Championship with Luke Donald. 

Will Team Europe lose its valuable Ryder Cup player?

Casey is undoubtedly a very successful Ryder Cup name. The 44-year-old (turning 45 in three weeks) has represented Team Europe in the Ryder Cup five times. Out of all the 16 matches he played for his team, he has won on 4 ocassions, lost 7 times, and secured 5 halves. 

Recently, Team USA captain Zach Johnson revealed that the LIV Golf players wouldn’t be able to participate in the 2023 Ryder Cup team. However, Team Europe hasn’t announced anything regarding the same.

Notably, there have been speculations that DP World Tour won’t let the league players on the Europe team. In that case, the Ryder Cup sensation wouldn’t be able to play in the next competition. Notably, the DP World has already lost its Ryder Cup players in Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, and Ian Poulter to the league. 

Where will Paul Casey make his first appearance as a LIV Golf player?

Paul Casey has been on a break from the tournaments since the WGC-Match Play in March, citing back spasms. He missed all three majors, the Masters, the PGA Championship, and the U. S. Open because of the injury

“Well, I am gonna be playing golf Monday, Tuesday, over here in Ireland (JP McManus Pro-Am),” Casey said in his league’s new player introduction interview. Furthermore, he added, “With it being the 150th Open at St. Andrews, that would be my goal. And you will see me at Bedminster.”

The Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster will host the LIV Golf Invitational Series’ third event that begins on July 19. And according to the player, it will be his first event in the Saudi Arabian-backed league. 

With Paul Casey, the DP World Tour lost one more top-ranking player in the world to the Series. How many do you think will join Greg Norman’s league in the future?
