Shooting a video from the hospital where he was admitted, in New York, Thomas revealed that he just underwent a microdiscectomy. “I’ve had some nagging hip pain for a handful of months and after some time off and worsening symptoms, an MRI showed I had a disc problem that needed to be treated,” the caption of the video said. “I had a successful microdiscectomy performed yesterday at Hospital for Special Surgery in NY…”
As the Ryder Cupper thanked the medical staff for their help, he broke the bigger headline. Thomas has not put any date on his timetable for a return. As of now, rest and patience will take priority for the 29-year-old.

“Before you ask, I’m not putting any tournament on the calendar or a specific time for returning. While I will miss some events in the beginning of 2026, I want to be very smart and patient in letting my disc fully heal so it isn’t an issue again,” he explained.
It should be noted that Thomas was set to participate in the Skins Game starting on November 28th. He, alongside notable names like Xander Schauffele, Tommy Fleetwood, and Keegan Bradley, was all ready to revive the game. But as the PGA Tour reports, Thomas has pulled out of the event.
