Justin Thomas is making the headline for his remarkable victory at the 2022 PGA Championship. He carded 67 on the final day and remained -5 for the event. Meanwhile, Mito Pereira had the solo lead with a score of -6, and Zalatoris was at the -4 as well. Hence, JT went to the clubhouse and was slightly upset.

However, he kept his composure and held on to his nerves. He signed the scorecard and watched the television as Zalatoris made a birdie putt on the 17th to tie with Thomas. Additionally, Will saved par with an incredible up and down on the final hole.

After watching this, Justin walked out of the room and went to the Caddie + Player support services. The cameras followed him, but JT’s agent stopped them and had a word with them. Furthermore, Justin’s dad, Mike Thomas, went inside, had a word with Justin, and came back out quickly.

Then JT, along with his dad and caddie, went to the range to hit a few balls. However, he had an eye on how Mito Pereira is performing on the final hole. Notably, Mito hit a horrifying tee shot on the final hole and it was clear that there was going to be a two-way or a three-way playoff.

So Thomas got around 35 minutes between his round and playoffs where he remained in his zone. He did not let anything or anyone distract him and even had a few last-minute tips from his dad and swing coach Mike Thomas. Then he went to the putting green where the official appeared and took them towards the 13th hole for playoffs.

Justin Thomas holds Will Zalatoris in the playoffs

The playoff format in the 2022 PGA Championship was slightly different. Usually, we see only one-hole playoffs on the PGA Tour. However, here they had to play a three-hole playoff on the 13th, 17th, and 18th. And they considered the aggregate of all these holes to choose a winner.

Hence, Justin Thomas used all his experience to hold his nerves and carded two birdies and a par to lift the Wanamaker trophy. Meanwhile, Zalatoris carded a birdie and a par and sadly lost the playoffs. Quite remarkably, Justin Thomas used the experience of his caddie Jim Bones Mackay to the fullest, and his guidance helped him to remain calm under pressure.
