The United States received a major boost, with as many as 7 former Ryder Cup champions present in the squad. Moreover, with veteran stars like Thomas, the team can bank on their experience to reclaim the crown lost last year. So, recently, Bradley was involved in a pre-tournament interview, during which he was asked about the role the experienced players have played to shape the rookies on the team.

Bradley replied, “I think we have a really unique group of players on our team in that we don’t have any super young players and we don’t have any older players. They’re all sort of the same age. What’s really unique about this team is they all really take care of each other. J.J. Spaun is the U.S. Open champion and he’s willing to go to his peers and ask for advice how to go about this, and these veteran players are always open to helping players — forget about if it’s the Ryder Cup. They want to help J.J. play better at the Travelers or wherever it is.”

Further, he went on to add, “When it comes to the Ryder Cup, they rally around each other and they rally around the rookies. Really proud of the veterans and the older players for what they’ve done for our team.”

The United States team is a mix of an experienced bunch and rookies. While Justin Thomas has played the most Ryder Cups out of anyone in the squad, with four till date, his teammate J.J. Spaun will make his maiden appearance this year. Thus, the latter has received some useful piece of advice in the locker room, with Thomas revealing, “You earned your spot on this team. Don’t feel like this is a handout or a pick. You have a major that a lot of us are very jealous of, and you deserve to be on this team.”

Going by the past successes of the team, this has gone on to become a tradition in the American team. Young and rookie players can gain massive experience by playing alongside experienced stars like Thomas and learn a lot from them.
Bradley had even praised Scheffler for his “role” of inspiring everyone on the team. Something which now Bradley believes everyone in the team is doing, with the sole aim of winning the Cup.

Justin Thomas spills his team’s strategy as Scottie Scheffler’s role is explained
As a former Ryder Cup champion, all the spotlight will be on Scottie Scheffler. Naturally, the fans expect him to carry his team in the Ryder Cup. However, Thomas cleared the air and detailed the USA’s strict Bethpage Black strategy.
Thomas said, “He’s definitely one of 12 when it comes to the team. I think it is very cool and unique that everybody on our team is. It’s not like Scottie gets more points for winning a match than I do or J.J. Spaun or Collin Morikawa or Xander, whatever it is. At the end of the day, it’s just all about going and winning your point.”

Thus, an important part of the team’s strategy is to divide the responsibilities among the team members instead of putting the burden on players like Scheffler, who have had success in the past. This results not only in a combined team effort, which is the essence of the Ryder Cup, but also provides the opportunities and challenges for everyone in the team to grow equally.
