Thanksgiving leftovers won’t be the only thing heating up this November. The PGA Tour Skins Game is back after 16 years, promising a mix of fun and fierce competition at Panther National. The event tees off at 9 a.m. ET on Amazon Prime Video as part of a special sports-filled Friday lineup.

The 2025 PGA Tour Skins Game features four Ryder Cup stars in a team showdown. The 2025 Ryder Cup teammates Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele will face off against U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley and European Ryder Cup standout Tommy Fleetwood, reported Golfweek.

The Pro Shop and the PGA Tour joined hands to resurrect the Skins Game. The announcement about its resurrection was made in December 2024, but the details of the schedule and participants were ironed out. Since then, many people, including the veteran Curtis Strange, have questioned whether the comeback will be good enough.

“I would hate to see them try to re-invent the Skins Game. It was a great show while it lasted. Those sequels never work, do they?” said Strange to Sports Illustrated.

Strange’s concerns are genuine. The original Skins Game debuted in 1983, with the last edition played way back in 2008. Bringing the nostalgia and the same fun back after a 16-year hiatus can be challenging. But organizers are already working on that. They are adding a modern twist while staying true to the traditional format.

Each hole at the Skins Game will carry a dollar value, and tied holes will roll over, just like it used to be. But this time, there’s also something called the ‘reverse purse.’ With the reverse purse in play, each golfer will start with $1 million. This value will increase or decrease based on whether the golfer wins or loses a hole.

“By keeping the traditional format intact and adding some creative twists, we’re giving fans an experience that honors the past while delivering pure, high-stakes competition where the pressure builds with every shot,” said Chad Mumm, co-founder and president of Pro Shop.

But will that be enough, one would ask? Organizers certainly would have had the same thought. Therefore, they are roping in some of the biggest names out there. Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele, Keegan Bradley, and Tommy Fleetwood have amassed 34 PGA Tour victories and five major championships among them. Tommy has even shared an update about the same by reposting a video by Skins Game on X with the text, “Excited for the Skins Game to be making a return and being part of it! See you there!”

Both Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele are 2x major champions, while Bradley achieved this feat once. Although Fleetwood has not won any major championships, he has 1 PGA Tour and 7 DP World Tour victories to his name. All four are associated with the 2025

Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, which makes it even more interesting for golf enthusiasts. Fleetwood was part of the winning European team that beat Team US 15-13. Moreover, three of them are in the top 10 in the OWGR, while Keegan ranks 14th in the world rankings.

Despite all the efforts, it may be challenging to replicate the energy the Skins Game generated during its 26-year run from 1983 to 2008. Let’s relive some iconic moments from this silly season event.

Iconic moments from the PGA Tour Skins Game

One iconic moment that certainly takes you down memory lane is the inaugural event held in 1983. Participation from legends like Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, and Tom Watson truly made this event groundbreaking. Held at Desert Highlands in Scottsdale, Arizona, this inaugural event turned into a golf tradition that went on for 26 more years till 2008.

Gary won the inaugural event, and Arnold was the runner-up. Ironically, Nicklaus and Watson were the winners and runners-up, respectively, in the following year.

Another moment that may come to mind for many is the hole-in-one shot from 1987. Lee Trevino aced the par-3 17th at PGA West in what we can title as one of the greatest shots in Skins Game history. The hole-in-one shot secured Lee a huge skin, and he won $310,000 in the event.

In 2001, the Skins Game introduced a controversial “validation” rule that was scrapped in 2002. According to the rule, a player had to win or tie the following hole to collect any skins won. Greg Norman became the only player to validate successfully, claiming an $800,000 skin and ultimately taking home the entire $1 million purse that year.

The 2003 Skins Game witnessed another iconic moment as LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam played in the event. She not only competed but also won a $100,000 skin on the first day. She then went on to win $225,000 overall against the top male players in the game. Sorenstam ended second after Fred Couples ($605,000), who won the event for the fourth time in 2003. Following them were Phil Mickelson ($170,000) and Mark O’Meara ($0).

The PGA Tour Skins Game holds a special place in golf history as a pioneering and highly entertaining competition. It is coming back on Thanksgiving for the first time since 2008. We will have to wait and see if it can evoke nostalgia and attract golf fans this time.
