In the last three decades, K. J. Choi has won 32 times in his career; however, he has never won a major. But that might change in just a few hours. The 54-year-old has been playing at the Senior Open Championship at the Carnoustie Championship Course, and after three rounds, the 6-time PGA Tour winner has taken the lead with only a few holes to go (at the time of publishing).

This will be the South Korean pro’s first victory in the last three and his first major championship in his career, albeit at the senior Tour. What clubs has the 54-year-old used at the 2024 Senior Open to inch closer to his 33rd career win? The Korean pro uses a PING G430 LST Driver, which has a 3-degree loft. He pairs it with the LA golf shaft. Choi had signed a deal with PING to use their club in the 2017–2018 season. However, now his bag has a variety of clubs, and only from PING.

The LST driver generated ample speed to break the fairway, yet gave a lowered spin to the ball. It retails for $399 at the PGA Tour Superstore. For hitting from the fairways and being absolutely precise, Choi’s 3-wood choice was the Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond Fairway Woods, which has a 15-degree loft and the same shaft as the driver. The club costs $279.99 and has an AI design to help with the optimum launch, speed, and spin.

With this, Choi also has two hybrids in his bag. The first one is the Callaway Apex UW with a 19-degree loft. This utility wood has a compact head shape, which enhances the shot and improves control. It sells for $299.99. The second is the 5-hybrid TaylorMade Stealth 2 Rescue, which has the Project X HZRDUS shaft and is set with a 22-degree loft. It has a lower price than the Apex UW, which goes for $219.99, and promises increased forgiveness and optimum spin.

Irons, wedges, and putter on K. J. Choi’s bag

Choi signed a deal with Srixon in 2014 and has been using their bag, ball, and gloves since then. The equipment deal doesn’t include using clubs, yet the South Korean Pro’s bag has the Srixon ZX7 MKII from 5 iron to pitching wedges. He has equipped it with an LA Golf shaft and a Golf Pride Tour Velvet. The iron has a premium blade and offers optimum control, going for around $1,199.

For the tough bunkers at the Carnoustie Championship Course, Choi used the Cleveland RTX 6 Epicure Tour Rack Wedge (50˚, 54˚, 58˚). It gives maximum spin despite wet or dry conditions. The wedges have been included in the 2024 Golf Digest Hot List Gold Medal and retail for $189 per club.

Lastly, the putter that may become the shining star for Choi is the OG in the golf world, Odyssey White Hot OG Seven Putter. It has been a choice for many PGA Tour players as it has been equipped with urethane insert technology, which allows precision strokes each time. It goes for $199.99. The bag has turned out to be the lucky charm for Choi, as he has won the first major of his career.
